Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?

It’s easy! Simply contact our teaching team to discuss your requirements and book your lesson. Then, simply wait for us to come to you. If you're having online lessons then we'll call at your allotted time. It's that simple!

How long are the lessons?

For pupils aged 7 - 11  lessons last for 30 minutes and for students aged 12+ lessons last for 45 minutes. We also offer longer lessons upon request.

How much does it cost?

You can see prices for all of our services by clicking here.

What are your opening hours?

Our opening hours are:

Monday - Friday: 10:00 - 21:00

Closed on bank holidays.

What is your service area?

We operate a mobile tuition service for pupils based in Portishead, and an Online Tuition Service for pupils further afield.

How do I pay?

Mobile lesson fees must be paid via card payment on the day of the lesson. Our tutors are equipped with card machines that accept all major credit/debit card and smart phone payments. We are unable to accept any alternative payment methods for mobile lessons unfortunately. Online lesson payment should be made via standing order. Please read our terms and conditions for full details.

How often should I have a lesson?

For children we highly recommend weekly lessons. For adults, we tend to suggest a biweekly session, but we will always discuss this with you before deciding what's best.

How much do I need to practice?

Success in learning an instrument comes with practicing frequently. We ask our pupils to try and practice every day. Of course, there will be times where this is not possible, but you should always aim to do so. It's important to remember that the majority of your progress is made in the time between the lessons!

What about learning materials?

All lesson material will be available to view/print/download from your Digital Lesson File. As well as saving the planet, this is a handy way to ensure that you can never lose your practice material! We will always bring copies of the work being studied to the lessons, though students are expected to either print them out or view them on their tablets/computers when practicing on their own.

Where can I get grade books from?

Grade books are purchased directly through the exam board's website. Your tutor will guide you to the right place!

What do I need for my lessons?

Aside from the instrument itself (i.e guitar / ukulele), the bare essentials are 1) A tuner and 2) Plectrums / Picks (if you’re learning guitar). A footrest and a music stand are also very useful, although not essential. Our team are always happy to offer advice when it comes to equipment, so don’t hesitate to ask!

Why take grade exams?

Graded exams are a great way to track your progress and to give you a solid goal to work towards. It is useful to find out what standard your playing is, and this is a way of doing so via a reliable and independent assessment. RGT Graded Examinations are internationally recognised qualifications, and you earn UCAS points for passing grades 6-8. For more information on UCAS points for graded exams, click here.

Can I rent a guitar from you?

Unfortunately we do not currently provide a guitar rental service, though it is something we’re working on.

Do you offer a free trial lesson?

We don’t offer a free trial because our lessons are tailored to the individual and therefore take time to prepare. We also have other costs to cover, so it soon adds up! We are confident that you will be 100% satisfied with lessons from Pure Musician.

Can you teach me my favourite songs?

Of course, that’s what we’re here for!

Do you teach children with special requirements?

Unfortunately we do not currently teach children with special requirements though it is something we are looking to expand to in the future.
